Unitywater has invested a sum of $40 million dollars into an upgrade of the Nambour Sewage Treatment Plant on the Sunshine Coast , QLD.

The upgrade, built by Downer/Tenix, will significantly improve sewerage services to the growing number of residents in Nambour, Woombye, Palmwoods, Eumundi and Yandina.

With its design capacity to serve the equivalent of 45,000 people, the upgraded Nambour Sewage Treatment Plant protects the current and future health of surrounding communities.

The substantial improvement in effluent quality is also having a positive effect on the health and quality of the Maroochy River in reducing bacteria discharge.

The new plant has eliminated 13 tonnes a year of nitrogen and seven tonnes of phosphorus from the treated effluent flowing into the Maroochy River.

The plant also provides recycled water to irrigate the local football field, golf course and turf farm and used in dust suppression on construction sites.

Unitywater operates 17 sewage treatment plants throughout the Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Moreton Bay regions.
